Widgets and the Lock Screen.
A calm app should be easy to glance at. Jamaal has two widgets: one for how today looks, and one for the Anchor your day is moving around.
Today
The Today widget comes in three sizes.
- Small: the headline, like "Four things, gently paced.", and how full the day is. It shows no task titles.
- Medium: the headline, the capacity bar, and your next two tasks, with how many more there are.
- Large: your next five tasks, each with a dot for its category and its minutes, and the next Anchor with a bar for its window.
When everything's done it says so, and when nothing is planned it says that calmly too, with no prompt to add something. From your planning time in the evening, the medium and large ones show a Plan tomorrow button that opens Night Planning.
Next Anchor
The small widget shows the Anchor that's open, or the next one to open: its name, until when it's open, and a bar for how much of its window has passed. If an Anchor's window closed without an answer, it says "not marked yet". If there are none left today, it says that too.
On the Lock Screen
Next Anchor also comes in three Lock Screen sizes on iPhone and iPad: beside the date, as a small circle, or as a wider rectangle with a bar. They use the Lock Screen's own tinted look.
To add one, touch and hold the Lock Screen, tap Customize, tap the area under the clock or beside the date, and choose Jamaal. On a locked screen your task titles stay hidden, and Anchor names stay visible.
Adding them
On the Home Screen, touch and hold an empty space, tap Edit, then Add Widget, and search for Jamaal. On a Mac, add them from the widget gallery on the desktop or in Notification Center.
What they don't do
Widgets show; they don't edit. Tapping one opens Today. And a widget refreshes on its own schedule, so if one looks out of date after a change on another device, open Jamaal once and it catches up.
